Ferry Road Medical Centre FAQS

How Do I Make An Appointment?

Please phone our receptionists to make an appointment with a doctor, nurse practitioner or nurse. We strongly encourage our patients to see the same doctor or nurse practitioner. If you need to be seen at a time when your doctor or nurse practitioner is not available (they may have no free appointments or may not be in the practice) you:

  • may be offered an appointment with our GP registrar
  • OR one of our nurses will phone you to work out which of the following is best: seeing your usual doctor or nurse practitioner as an “extra” appointment for the day, seeing one of our other doctors or nurse practitioner, going to the 24 Hour Surgery or the Emergency Department. Sometimes advice by phone is all that’s needed.

Can I Bring Support For My Visit?

You are welcome to bring one or more support people with you when you visit us. If you would like one of our nurses to be with you during your visit (for example for an intimate physical examination) please let us know. We have translator services available for patients who are not able to converse in English. If possible please let us know in advance if this service is needed.

How Will I Find Out The Results Of Your Tests?

Usually we will contact you only if your test results are of concern, and not if they are normal. However you are welcome to phone and speak to one of our nurses about any of your test results.

If you have tests arranged by Dr Lynette Murdoch, she will contact you with all of your results: both normal and abnormal.

Can I Phone For Prescriptions?

If you are on regular medication and your health problem is under control and stable, you may be able to request a repeat prescription by phone rather than making an appointment to visit us. A nurse will return your phone call to discuss your request.

Prescriptions can be collected from our reception desk or faxed to a pharmacy of your choice. Please allow a full working day for this to be done.
